Premiering during Konami's pre-E3 presscon on May 31st, the tragic character of Gabriel Belmont will return once again in the epic sequel to the 2010 hit Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Developed by Konami and Mercury Steam, it's confirmed for a release sometime in 2013, with a cinematic trailer giving players a glimpse of things to come. SPOILER Analysis and the trailer follow after the jump, so view at your own risk.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 Debut Trailer

When we last left Gabriel (voiced by Robert Carlyle in the original game), he was unable to save his wife Marie and resigned himself to a fate worse than death: embracing darkness and assuming the name of "Dracula". The trailer picks up sometime in between the events of the first game and its epilogue, where Gabriel/ Dracula is still living in the middle ages in the same abandoned castle seen in the ending of Lords of Shadow. He then proceeds to confront and demolishes his attackers with his vampiric powers, including making short work of a giant titanic creature. Finally, after all is said and done, a single warrior is left standing against him, armed with a sword and sporting silver long hair.

Rumors persist that this figure could be a figure from past games, but it could also be a new figure entirely introduced in this new timeline of the Castlevania Universe. We'll just have to wait and see until more concrete details pop up in the future or in E3 next week. For more information, visit the source post at Kotaku.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on 2013.
