Concept art for Darren Aronofsky's Batman: Year One online

It's hard to imagine what the next Batman movie will be now that Christopher Nolan wrapped up his epic vision of the Caped Crusader with "The Dark Knight Trilogy" last year, but then again it won't be the first time that discussions and different possibilities were brought up for the Batman film franchise either.

Say hello to concept art for what would have been "Batman: Year One" in the early 2000's.

Back before Nolan's pitch was given the greenlight and culminated with Batman Begins, Black Swan and The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky was one of the directors Warner Bros. considered to tap for rebooting the Batman film franchise after the major disappointment that was 1998's Batman and Robin. Teaming up with legendary Batman writer Frank Miller, both men set out to do a new take on the Dark Knight by writing a screenplay for "Batman: Year One" - which bore the same name as the classic 1987 Batman storyline/ graphic novel. However, this concept would differ in part due to the origins of Bruce Wayne, who would end up being a homeless vigilante and Alfred re-imagined as "Big Al", an African American mechanic who assists Wayne in his crusade (which would make him a sort of amalgamation of Alfred Pennyworth and Lucius Fox, who played a big part helping Wayne and was played Morgan Freeman in Nolan's Batman movies.

Via SpinOff Online and Comic Book Movie, a cache of concept art has made its way online for Year One, giving fans a glimpse of the Batman film that never was. Get a glimpse at the different costume pitches that the Caped Crusader had, as well as looks at the different Batmobile designs, gadgets, and studies of Catwoman and Jim Gordon. For more information and the rest of the pics, visit the source post at Spinoff Online.

So could history repeat itself this way and make a Batman pitch similar/ different to this concept for the inevitable Justice League/ DC Movie Universe movie franchise? We'll just have wait and see.
