Marvel Movies: Spider-Man film franchise will "Never Ever Ever" leave Sony's hands

With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 currently in production, you'd think that the web-slinger would slowly but surely join his brethren in Marvel Studios once filming was complete. Rumors persisted that Sony Pictures was considering selling the rights back to the House of Ideas and Walt Disney Pictures, thereby setting the wall-crawler alongside his fellow superheroes.

Well, looks like that isn't happening anytime soon, as Ain't It Cool confirmed in a conversation with Sony Pictures Co-Chairman Amy Pascal regarding the rumor. She confirms that Sony will "never ever ever" let the rights to Spidey go away, and why would they? Given Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy and the Marc Webb reboot in 2012 and it's upcoming sequel next year, that's a money-generating hero for the studio that'll keep them happy as well as viewers themselves. They've done a terrific job with both interpretations thus far, and while The Amazing Spider-Man rebooted things to a slow start, the sequel may pave the way for something greater.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.
