The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: New Character Posters debut online

With just over a month to go before viewers return to Middle-Earth and the prequel journey that set forth the events of The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. have released a new set of character posters for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Pictured here is the main and titular character himself, Bilbo Baggins, as played by Martin Freeman, ready to unsheath his newly acquired sword Sting and prepare himself for the dangers to come.

Via the official Hobbit Facebook page, here's the rest of the character posters that make this upcoming movie look as epic as ever.

Wise and ready as ever, Ian McKellen returns to guide Bilbo and the Dwarves as the ever vigilant Gandalf The Grey.

Richard Armitage returns as well, leading his company of Dwarves to reclaim their homeland from Smaug The Dragon as the brave and headstrong prince of the Dwarven kingdom, Thorin Oakenshield.

Here's Luke Evans as the mysterious and sharp eyed Bard The Bowman.

Making his return (or first appearance chronologically) is Orlando Bloom, taking up the bow and defending his Elven brethren as the sharpshooting Elf, Legolas.

And ruling the Mirkwood Elves is none other than Legolas' father, King Thranduil, as played by Lee Pace.

Finally, Evangeline Lilly shows female elves can be skillful warriors as well by playing the beautiful Elf, Tauriel.

Catch The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in conventional, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters when it opens next month on December 13.
